Vidha was founded in the year 1991 by the struggling social worker Mamta Jain, who was involved with social development in different regions of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh since 1980. She is founder convenor of the organisation since its establishment.
The organisation believes in women centred development the society, through newer ways, means and efforts. Towards this belief, it links women directly with developmental works, makes them participants in development and develops women-oriented thinking amongst the organisational workers and the community.
Founded by women, Vidha is committed to work on all the issues related with women for their empowerment.
Since its birth, the organisation is working with the poor, landless, exploited, adivasis (Scheduled Tribes), dalits (Scheduled Castes) and backwards. This is the class of the society, which is financially weak, socially exploited and neglected and resourceless.
